Mini 14 is a semi-automatic carbine manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. based in the United States. It is a rugged and compact carbine with its own fair share of attention when compared to the AR-15 rifles, but indeed is more desirable when it comes to overall performance, utility and the exclusive Mini 14 accessories.
The history of Mini 14 dates back to the year 1974. It was designed using the mother design of the M-14 battle rifles. The Mini 14 is designed down to its current frame to fit in the .223 Remmington cartridges. The Mini 14 uses a lot of accessories and these Mini 14 accessories make this carbine easier to use and customizable. These accessories range from a group of folding stocks, bipods and flash hiders, which is the reason of its popularity and adaptability. These are mostly after-market products for customizing the Mini 14.
The history of the Mini 14 accessoriesand the Mini-14 itself can be traced to the year of its first blueprint design by L. James Sullivan and William B. Ruger. The Mini-14 implies to the miniature version of the M14 rifles. It has a ‘Garand style locking system’ with self-cleaning facilities and a fixed gas-piston system. To put more history to it, the mini-14 is a more compact version of the rifles used in the World War (M1 Garand rifles).
The initial rifles had heat shields made of wood and from there the mini-1 4 has reformed itself in the year 2003. Previously they had the serial number of 181 and these were overhauled using new mechanism and minute other changes. This new design with serial number starting with 580 has better standards, because it incorporates Mini 14 accessories. These add to the carbines popularity with the defense forces. Accessories are used to modify this carbine according to the purpose it would serve like ranching, target shooting and security. These rifles, introduced as Ranch Rifles were a better version of the existing mini 14, manufactured with lesser cost, better style and more accuracy. The barrel vibration was reduced with new iron sights.
In 2007, a new barrel with heavy tapering was introduced to the Ranching Rifles. The thicker part of the barrel is towards the end near the gas block. The new variety has quite a name in accuracy. It is capable of taking a shot with 2 MOA accuracy while the target model has an accuracy of 1 MOA.
The Mini 14 accessories add to the mini 14s versatile use. During militarized operations these are customized to suit the needs of a professional military rifle. The Mini 14 accessories normally used are bayonet lug, folding stocks and flash suppressor. These service rifles used by law enforcement agencies around the globe use their own accessories according to their needs and it vouchsafes the quality and ability of the original.
The mini 14s are now obtained with easy mounting enabled scope rings. These certain modified and accessorized mini 14s are easier to operate and more useful. The .223 cartridge is also changeable. But, it is not used in a mini 30 which in itself is a variation of a mini 14. The Mini 14 accessories are easily available at hand and that’s one of the many benefits of a mini 14. Although a little behind the automatic carbines like AR-15, these mini 14s are still popular because they are easy to clean, customizable and has handy and cheap accessories. The accessories affirm the credibility of these mini 14s and the major reason for them to still be in use.
